It's well documented that Billy Joe Shaver wrote nine songs (including the title track) from Waylon Jennings' 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes. Shaver's songwriting is in the very top bracket - he's written some of the most memorable, hardest-hitting country songs in the history of the music. As a solo artist or as frontman for his group, he has failed to reach great heights of commercial success; partly because he doesn't fit the image required to make it big in the Billboard country chart, and also because great though his songs are, they can't all be termed radio-friendly. Let's forget the pursuit of fame (which was never a priority for Shaver anyway) and concentrate on his music: uncomromising rock-edged country blues, vocals spat out with equal parts venom and humour and the startling guitar work of Billy Joe's son Eddy, who tragically passed away in December 2000, the victim of the temptations that the life of a no-frills travelling band will provide. I'm working my way backward in time in discovering the rich musical legacy of father and son Billy Joe and Eddie Shaver. I started with 2000's The Earth Rolls On, another 5-star recording, but this one, from 1993, is even a little better. This kind of music carries on the authentic legacy of rock 'n roll and western swing in a way that contemporary pop and country music absolutely do not. The musical licks are sharp, the vocals full-throated (with some help from Waylon Jennings) and the words always heartfelt and often funny. Very rarely does an artist deliver six tunes in a row as powerful as Tracks 1-6 here. One of my favorites is #3, Georgia on a Fast Train ("Got a good Christian raisin' and a 8th grade education, ain't no need y'all a treatin' me this way"). Eddie's guitar licks come so fast that Billy Joe has to caution him, "Aw, slow down, Eddie" (or is it "throw down"?). Billy Joe has been penning country gold since the 60's. He has quietly become the finest honky-tonk songwriter of our time. His latest creation, the band "Shaver" features his son Eddy on guitar. Eddy Shaver is one of the best young country pickers in the business. Listen to him "throw down" as Billy Joe urges on "Georgia On a Fast Train.' His twelve-string work on the ballad "Live Forever", backed by vocals from the Kentucky Headhunters' Doug and Ricky Lee Phelps will charm you. Billy Joe welcomes the vocals of his good friend Waylon Jennings throughout this record. "Tramp On Your Street" is always perched at the top of my CD stack. The title cut is a haunting tribute to his life as a honky-tonk hero. The lack of airplay, not to mention a Grammy nod illustrates just what is wrong with country radio, and the music industry in general. Best country record I've ever heard.

I've owned 3 Norelco shavers in my life. Each lasting more than 10 years. The local repair shop who has serviced my previous 2 Norelco's noted that the new ones aren't the quality of the old. Time will only answer that question but I can state that the 7340 system sold here is a much changed version of what I have used in the past.

First the 7430 is light....extremely light. It is very quiet, something that takes getting used to. It's also the first Norelco I've owned without the comfort control setting. I was initially reluctant since on my previous 2 Norelco's the comfort control setting seemed to affect the closeness of the shave. This particular razor has the HQ8 heads. The higher priced models use the HQ9s. From my research the biggest complaint about the HQ9 head is that it seems to take more time to get a clean shave. Based on 3 weeks of use of the 7340, even without the comfort control, not only do the HQ8 heads shave as fast as my older Norelco's but the... Read more

I bought the shaver from Best Buy for $52 three weeks ago. I'm 63 and have been using Braun shavers for the past 25 years because I felt they gave a closer shave than Norelco.

This Norelco, which although is made in China, seems very well made. It is remarkably quiet and comfortable, a pleasure to use. After three weeks of getting my beard accustomed to the shaver I can say it seems to shave reasonably close and gets all the hairs - something my Braun had a problem with.

I just completed a test, shaving half my face with the Norelco, half with my old Braun (not in the best shape), and after judging my beard the next morning, the Norelco easily won. It's not as close as a blade - by 5 p.m I notice a stubble, but considering how easy it is to use (and washable) I really can't complain! an excellent shaver at a reasonable price.

The good: a good shave; plenty of battery life (at least when brand-new); corded or cordless use; when corded, it shaves really well even if the batteries are nearly depleted; easy to clean (the heads can be rinsed under the tap).

That said: I would have liked an indicator when the battery is down far enough that recharging is indicated, like my old Norelco had. I guess it doesn't matter, since if it stops dead you can finish up with the cord, but I still would have liked a "Time to Recharge" indicator.

The instructions say that, for best battery life, you should use it cordless as much as possible, and run the batteries almost all the way out before recharging. I'd rather have a razor I can use corded all the time, but this is the next best thing.

As an African-American military member, this is the closet shaver I have found that does not leave my face with ingrownhairs two days later. I am very impressed with it. I used to use Wahl beard trimmers turned upside down, and sometimes the BumpStopper razors. This is, by far, the best product for a very, very close shave and yet no razor bumps. If only it cost a little less, I would like to buy them as a Xmas gift for every professinal black men in my family.

This shaver replaced a Panasonic that cost over twice as much. The Wahl shaved faster, closer, and with less skin irritation than the Panasonic. It also lasted longer between charges. The only flaw immediately apparent was the lack of a pop-up trimmer. I thought it was an excellent value. I have a heavy beard, and it did the job. After having the product for a while, I purchased a new replacement foil & cutter bar assembly, as suggested in the instructions. The new replacement foil lasted exactly two weeks & fell apart (making it and the shaver useless)- it had a defect in the molding of the plastic which held it together. After some miscommunication, Wahl Customer Service replaced the defective part at no charge, telling me that they were aware of the defect and had remedied the situation. The shaver now works as well as it did when new.

I've had this shaver for almost a year. CONS - the 1st thing to go out after 6 months was the ability to use it without the cord so I had to use it plugged in. The next thing to go was the foil itself. Probably because I take it everywhere.

As a black man, i've tried all the products but still got razor bumps. For the last 10 yrs, I was just using the trimmer my barber uses but I still looked like I had a 5 O'Clock shadow. One day my barber pulled out the shaver and the love affair with this razor began as my wife was loving how close the shave was compared to the old trimmer.

Some of the guys reviewing this product, in my opinion, are not using the shaver correctly and I would like to help. When I 1st tried it, I would push it hard on my face to try to get as close as possible. When I did this, I would get little bumps. I realized I was being counter-productive as the goal is a close shave NOT using force and getting below the skin-line and creating razor bumps... Read more
